Cape May County · Straight from our fields

Raised in Jersey soil.
Rolled out at the cape.

Before Cape May County Sod lays a single strip, that grass has been growing on our farm in Tabernacle, New Jersey for nine months. We harvest it on the day of your job, not a week ahead.

A grass picked for shore living.

Our fields grow one tall fescue blend. It brings fescue’s grit in a drought plus the rich color of bluegrass, a good match for sandy lots near the bay and the ocean.

Digs in deep — roots run four to six inches down and carry it through hot, dry weeks
Unbothered by salt spray — it grows up near the coast, so beach-block yards are no shock to it
Made for loose, sandy ground — raised in the same kind of fast-draining soil it lands in here
Keeps a dark green look — dense turf that holds its color well into the season
Takes summer foot traffic — beach chairs, outdoor showers, kids and visiting dogs
No netting left behind — mesh-free rolls, so nothing wraps around your mower blade

The trip south, kept short.

Your rolls make a long trip down to Ocean City, Sea Isle City, Avalon, Stone Harbor, the Wildwoods or Cape May, and inland to Cape May Court House, Lower Township, Upper Township, Dennis Township or Woodbine. Grass that left the field hours ago handles that ride far better than grass that has waited on a pallet for days.

01

Nine months to mature

Every field gets fed, mowed and left alone long enough to grow thick. We never pull young sod early to make a deadline.

02

Lifted on the day

Harvested turf starts to fade the minute it is cut. We cut yours for your scheduled date, then load it and head for the cape.

03

Laid the same day

A full install goes down the day it arrives. If you only want delivery, it lands fresh at your property for your own crew.

How you can get it.

Tips from the field crew.

Planning to lay our sod on your own? Here is what our growers tell every do-it-yourselfer. Stick to it and the grass has a real chance.

Prepare the soil in advance — strip the old turf and rake level, then work in about 30 lbs of pulverized lime and close to 10 lbs of high-nitrogen starter fertilizer per 1,000 sq ft, all before delivery day
Run the water in the morning — target near ¾ inch a session, checked with a tuna can on the lawn, and drop to once every 2 or 3 days after it roots
Hold off on mowing — set the deck high for 2 to 3 weeks and wait until you cannot peel up a corner
Treat for grubs twice a year — once in spring and once in September, so they cannot chew through the roots
Give it an autumn meal — feeding in September grows roots that pay you back with thicker grass in spring
